The following procedure disables the power button and lid close while laptop is connected to the AC power.
- [Win]+R (or select Start / Run)
- Enter ‘powercfg.cpl’ without quotation marks.
- Click ‘Choose what the power buttons do’
- Select do nothing for ‘When I press the power button’ under ‘Plugged in’ column.
- Do the same for ‘When I close the lid’.
- Optional: you may do the same for ‘when I press sleep button’
After the above procedure, an unauthorized person is prevented from shutting down your computer when it is locked. However you can still shutdown your computer with a windows command (i.e. Start > Turn off) after unlocking the computer. The above instruction applies to Windows Vista.
