How To Recover Data On Stolen
Laptop with LAlarm laptop alarm
You can use LAlarm laptop alarm to recover data on
a stolen laptop.
The following steps configure LAlarm to upload data from your
laptop to your online storage account in case of laptop theft.
- Install LAlarm.
- Enable account lockout: Run Setup > Click Options
link > Lockout tab > Configure link. Or see the LAlarm manual for
enabling account lock and auditing policy.
- Sign up for an online storage account at
DriveHQ (http://www.drivehq.com/secure/FreeSignUp.aspx?from=ftp)
- Install WINSCP (http://winscp.net)
- Configure firewalls not to block WINSCP.
- After running notepad, copy and paste the following
contents into the notepad.

ftp://username:password@ftp.drivehq.com
-passive
put c:\mydoc\*.*
exit
- Substitute username, password with your own username and
password at
DriveHQ. Also replace c:\mydoc with your own folder name that
you wish to recover.
- Save the file as c:\upload.txt (or any other folder
of your choice.)
- Run LAlarm Setup program.
- Click Options
- Select Theft Response tab.
- Enter "c:\program
files\winscp\winscp.com" /script=c:\upload.txt in the
input
box. Note the file c:\upload.txt must be the same
one that you created in the step 8.
- Press OK or Apply button.
Note:
- The data retrieval will occur when an account is
locked out. For
example, a thief attempted to logon to your account with
incorrect
passwords for a number of times.
- There is an alternative way to recover data, see also

- In this article, DriveHQ and WinSCP are used. But you
can substitute them with your own favorite storage service and file
transfer program.
- If you have important data on your laptop, you should backup the data
daily. This data recovery function is not intended to substitute the
daily backup.
- Please read the LAlarm
product manual before using
LAlarm. The LAlarm manual is accessible by pressing the [Help] button
in the LAlarm setup program.
