How to best use LAlarm?

After installing LAlarm laptop alarm software, it will automatically start whenever your computer starts. It will be working behind the scene invisibly in normal situations. LAlarm consist of five alarms: theft alarm, perimeter alarm, inattention alarm, disk alarm and battery alarm. The theft alarm and battery alarm are already enabled by default. You can individually enable or disable the alarms from the Options setting.

  • With theft alarm, you can lock down your laptop to a power outlet or a table. When the laptop is disconnected from the power outlet or removed from the table, LAlarm emits a loud alarm sound. First, lock the computer by pressing [Win]+[L] key after connecting the laptop to a power outlet or lock down your laptop to a table with a flash drive and its strap
  • In order to use the perimeter alarm and the inattention alarm, you will need to enable them and define the safe zone for example enter your home IP address into the safe zone.
  • When an alarm goes off (except the theft alarm), there will be a pop up window with some options to stop the alarm.
  •  The data destruction and theft response functions are not enabled by default. Therefore, you have to enable the functions in the Options setting if you would like to use them.
  • You can receive alarm events to your mobile phone via email or SMS if you enable the email alert feature.
  • The battery longevity alarm is designed for the Li-ion type battery, which is the most commonly used laptop battery type. You should disable the battery longevity alarm if your laptop battery is not the Li-ion (Lithium-ion) type.
  • You can find more information in the product manual and Knowledge Base.

Note: LAlarm is intended to enhance laptop security and reduce security risks, but is intended neither to solve every laptop security problem nor being foolproof. Often a multi layer protection is better than a single layer protection. Thus, we suggest that you should also utilize other security solutions besides LAlarm such as backup, firewall, antivirus, encryption and so on. Furthermore, there are some other preventive measures you could take in order to prevent laptop theft and protect your laptop and data.
